Dr. Chugani, a clinical psychologist, therapist and mental health specialist, is an expert in dialectical behavior therapy. She describes DBT as “a type cognitive-behavioral therapy that incorporates elements of mindfulness and dialectical philosophy.”
Though it was designed to treat “a population of people with more intense needs” — such as borderline personality disorder or chronic suicidality — Dr. Chugani believes anyone can benefits from “mindfulness skills.” They include “emotional regulation skills, interpersonal effective skills, and stress tolerance skills.”
