1. Israel and Hamas sign breakthrough deal on hostage exchange
Israel and Hamas agreed to a four-day ceasefire in combat in order for at least 50 women, children and Palestinian prisoners held in Israel as well in Gaza to be released. The start time for the ceasefire will be announced in the next 24 hour.
Israel announced that for every 10 additional hostages released, a day will be added to the ceasefire. As part of the agreement, both Israel and the U.S. will halt drone flights over Gaza six hours a day.
This pause will enable much-needed humanitarian assistance to enter Gaza. UNICEF says that over 12,700 people, including 5,350 children, have died in Gaza. Israel has, up until now, cut off Gaza’s access to electricity, fuel, food, water and telecommunications in violation of international law.
