Noelle Scaggs hopes to diversify the music business from the ground up.
Scaggs is the co-lead vocalist of the pop band Fitz and the Tantrums and has been a professional musician for more than two decades. Diversify the Stage is a non-profit organization that aims to provide opportunities for BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and gender nonconforming people in concert, events and touring.

She tells Sonia Baghdady that “with everything that was going on over the pandemic and really looking at the communities of color, and the hardships we face, I kind of started thinking about my career, and what I could do that would have more impact than me being angry.” Make a difference.
Scaggs said that she was “often only woman of colour in a place” throughout her career. The music industry is known for favoring white men. Diversify the Stage offers an online directory that helps booking agents and touring managers to find diverse candidates.
