1. Still at large: Suspect in Lewiston, Maine mass-shooting
After a mass shooting that took place at a bar in Lewiston and a nearby bowling alley, 13 people were injured and 18 died. Robert Card, 40 is considered by the police to be a “person-of-interest” and “armed and dangerous”. Lewiston residents, Bowdoin residents, and Auburn citizens have been advised to stay indoors, with local schools and businesses closed.
Connecticut State Police released a press release on Thursday. “No specific threat has been received. But in the interests of public safety we are closely monitoring and in close contact with our regional law-enforcement partners,” they said.
Gun Violence Archive reports that this tragedy is the deadliest and 565th mass shooting to date in 2023.
2. U.S. airstrikes in Syria target targets linked to Iran
The United States began airstrikes on two sites in eastern Syria that were linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps early Friday morning, according to a release from Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
