1. Police in DC crack down on DC protestors calling for a truce
On Wednesday evening, a group from Jewish groups like Jewish Voice for Peace Action or IfNotNow Movement staged a candlelight protest near Capitol Hill. They called on Congress to press for a truce between Israel’s and Hamas’s war. After protesters clashed against police, Democratic Leaders had to be escorted out of the building.
Eva Borgwardt, IfNotNow’s national spokesperson, said in a statement, “Instead of heeding our call for a ceasefire, police violently attacked nonviolent protesters with pepper spray.”
Leadership from the other groups concurred, with Beth Miller, political director of Jewish Voice for Peace Action, saying in a statement that “hundreds of peaceful anti-war activists came to the DNC to call for an end to bombs and violence in order to save Palestinian and Israeli lives. Police brutally attacked them.
