25 Holiday Play Ideas That Make It More Fun

‘Tis the season to add more fun into your schedule. It is not uncommon for holiday season to be busy with many work deadlines.

Since the creation of Playground To Purpose podcast, my childhood friend and I have been striving to add more fun to our lives. This holiday season is the ideal time to add some spirited fun to your daily life.

This list can be used as an inspiration for holiday play!

If you find the post inspiring, be sure to save it on Pinterest!

1. Find the best holiday beverage in your city

We all love a Starbucks holiday drink. But, your local coffee shop may have holiday specials too! Look for the ones with the most unique flavors. Or, if you’re not a coffee or beverage kind of person, try to find the best holiday dessert!

2. You can make a themed cocktail

You could even make your own fun, festive cocktails! This could be taken to the next level. I’ve seen some fun drink recipe ideas on TikTok. Or, if you don’t drink, make it a mocktail!

3. Visit a candle shop and smell the festive scents

Bring on all the firewood, gingerbread & mulled wine candles.

4. Host a theme party

There are so many options! I’ve seen a trend of parties where you bring holiday drinks. You can also do a classic “ugly sweater party” or have everyone wear funky Christmas socks.

5. Create a gift exchange with themed gifts

A silly theme could be to only give gifts starting with the letter E. Giving people fun guidelines to work with allows people to get more creative, and feel like they’re on a bit of a scavenger hunt.

6. Ring the bell to support The Salvation Army

Ringing the bell for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign is super fun to do with your besties, while actually doing some good! Your group can raise money to aid homelessness and poverty, as well fund a lot of good programs. If you can’t physically go, you could also virtually be a bell ringer too!

7. Winter-themed books available

These romance holiday books are worth looking at.

8. Do a ‘Santa Claws’ party

Nina, Playground To Use co-host, is holding a virtual gift exchange for claw clips this holiday season. Such a clever idea to give gifts you’ll actually use!

9. Enjoy fun holiday socks

Target has great holiday socks. Etsy is another great place to find cozy socks.

10. Get an advent calendar

There is one for every need these days. Whether it’s socks or makeup, you can find one that isn’t just chocolates! You can even give a surprise advent calendar to someone you care about! Who wouldn’t love to open a new surprise treat every day?

11. Create a signature dish

Nothing says adulting more than having your own special dish to bring to parties. I’m still working on mine, but I feel like this feels like a fun project this year.

12. Enjoy a party with your friends to end the year

Success showers are the best way to honor your friends who have done great things in the past year.

13. Watch & keep track of your holiday movies

My spreadsheet tracker tracks what my family and myself rated the movie, where it can be watched, and which movies we are watching this year.

14. Donate to a Toy Drive

I also love the “angel tree” donations where you can give someone something on their Christmas list. These can be found at many Starbucks locations.

15. Choose an ornament that represents your year

This is a wonderful gift that you can give to people every year. They will always be able to look forward to the ornaments they receive from you.

16. Have a holiday-themed mani/pedi

You can choose to go with a traditional red, green or bleu for winter vibes. Or, you could go for fun mani art!

17. Personalize your gift packaging

Brown paper, reuse paper bags, or holiday stamps are available to help you make cute DIY gift wrapping.

18. Make a holiday treat inspired from your favorite movie

The Food Network’s article has fun options!

19. Enjoy holiday music in a different genre

There are holiday mixes for any genre, like R&B. This country holiday playlist has a vibe.

20. Play a holiday.

Here’s a list of hilarious holiday games you can play from Play Party Plan.

21. Holiday caroling tips

Skip the tipsy part! Holiday caroling can be fun and a lot of fun.

22. Go ice skating

Or skiing! You should do any outdoor winter activity that will get you through the cold!

23. Decorate your work desk

Make sure your workspace still allows for holiday productivity and isn’t too distracting, but have fun with making your office space a little more festive!

24. Take part in a Christmas lights scavenger hunting

Last year, I started a family tradition of doing a Christmas lights scavenger hunting using lists I found on Pinterest. It’s a fun way to make driving around the neighborhoods to check out lights even more fun!

25. Make a winter theme for your life

My new personality trait is to have a quarterly theme. This year, I chose to do “cozy while crushing it” which basically means adding extra comfort to my life while still making things happen. Examples of this: doing pilates in my pajamas, wearing all the cute matching sets & extra comfy clothes while ending the year with a bang. Swipe below for my co-host’s theme!
